The luxury car rules

NO SPACE, LAH: Car parked on the pavement at Jalan Telawi 3, BangsarIn Kuala Lumpur, there is an unwritten pecking order to life on the roads.

For the uninitiated, let this example taken at Jalan Telawi 3 in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, be your first lesson.

Unwritten rule No 1: You are less important than that Mercedes-Benz parked on the pavement, blocking your way.

Unwritten rule No 2: Your existence does not take precedence over it under any circumstance. Unwritten rule No 3: You are to be satisfied with what paltry slice of pavement there is left in the heat and smog of KL, and live with it.

Tough love or no love? Perhaps. But it’s Malaysia; we love our cars more then our fellow human beings.
